“She: A History of Adventure” is a novel by the British writer Sir Henry Rider Haggard. The book was first published in 1886 under the title She – A History of Adventure and, with over 83 million copies in over 44 languages, is one of the best-selling books of all time. The book has been filmed many times since 1908, the best-known canvas versions are “She” from 1935 with Helen Gahagan in the title role and from 1965 with Peter Cushing and Ursula Andress. The novel’s first-person narrator, Ludwig Horace Holly, is a private scholar in Cambridge. In order to fulfill the last will of his only friend Vincey, he takes in his underage son Leo. At the same time, Holly is instructed to open a specific suitcase on Leo’s 25th birthday and to travel to Africa if Leo wants to do so after opening the suitcase and viewing the contents.
